It’s still a little chilly outside, but the riding season is about to begin! Here’s what you need to prepare your motorcycle for spring.
Dust & Clean
Start by cleaning your bike: remove the cover, clean the dust and garage grime, and make it shine! Cleaning your bike isn’t just a meditative spring ritual – by going over your iron steed, you’ll likely spot things that are off and will be able to fix them then and there.
Check Your Tires
And we don’t just mean the tire pressure: check for cracks and other damage, just in case. Adjust your tire pressure before heading out: according to motorcycle mechanics, #1 reason for fast tire wear and flat tires is…that’s right – incorrect pressure.
Refuel
We hope you emptied the tank before storing your bike for the winter? Stale gasoline is bad news: fuel deteriorates quickly, so if you forgot to leave the tank empty, now is the time to ditch the old fuel and fill up fresh.
Charge Up
There’s nothing more annoying than a dead battery, so make sure yours is fully charged. If you forgot to put it on a trickle charger during the winter, now is the time to take care of it!
Light Check
Now that your battery is fully charged, make sure that all your lights are working. Pay exrta attention to your turn signals and brake light!
Chain, Oil and Fluids
Adjust your chain, clean it, and lubricate – you don’t want any slack or rust on it on your first spring ride. Once that’s done, check your oil level and see that all your fluids (brake fluid, coolant, etc) are topped off.
Air Filter
Have a quick look at your air filter – mice, spiders or other critters might have made a comfy nest in there! Evict any unwanted squatters and make sure your air filter is clean.
You’re ready to go! Hit that open road, and enjoy!
