Planning the perfect motorcycle weekend, but don’t know where to start? We’re here to help!
Riding your bike is the best rest there can be, but planning the perfect motorcycle weekend doesn’t have to be hard work. Here are a few pointers to help you along:
Decide What You Want
Some people love a relaxing cruise and some peace and quiet in a nice country B&B, whereas others thrive on adrenaline and need to attack some technical trails to really let their brain recharge. Be honest about what you need: if you know you’d love to go fishing, enjoy some leisurely riding or just relax at a KOA with a good book, don’t sign up for an intense off-road training weekend. Equally if you need to race or head out for the trails, politely decline a friend’s offer to cruise down a coastal road and relax on a beach.
Plan Your Accommodation
There’s nothing more annoying than having to look for a hotel or a campsite in the dark. Do a little research, figure out whether you want to stay in a hotel, AirBnB or a campsite, and book in advance. Make sure you have the GPS coordinates put in your GPS unit or your smartphone, and if you aren’t sure you can reach your destination in one day, do a little research of the area and see where you can stay if you can’t make it.
Prepare Your Gear
This one seems obvious, but do a quick service or a maintenance check on your bike before you leave for the weekend. Make sure you carry at least the basic toolkit, a tire patch kit, a spare tube, and extra gas if you’re heading out to a remote area.
If you plan to camp, see that your tent, sleeping bag and sleeping bag are packed. Carry food and water if you’re going off the grid; dromedary bags are great for carrying extra water. If you need more advice on motorcycle camping, check this post out!
Go to a Rally
Not sure what your perfect motorcycle weekend could look like? Go to a rally! Motorcycle events usually happen on weekends, so do some research, pick a rally that interests you, and ride. Not sure what to look for? See this post about what to expect at a motorcycle rally.
